Secondary School Curriculum

The Business Co-op Program helps students strengthen their business knowledge while gaining real-world experience. Alongside classroom learning, students take part in co-op placements and mentorship, giving them the chance to see how business works in practice.

Students study areas like Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, and International Business, while also building confidence, problem-solving skills, and a professional mindset. The program prepares students for university business programs or for starting a career with practical skills and experience.

Business (Co-op) – 2 Years Program

Building the Entrepreneurial Mindset

In this course, students will learn what makes a successful entrepreneur and build key business skills. They will develop an entrepreneurial mindset, use business tools to create and share their own ideas, and improve communication and project management. The course focuses on taking initiative, solving problems, and understanding money in business.

Launching and Leading a Business

This course teaches students what it takes to run a successful and responsible business in today’s world. They will learn about key areas like marketing, accounting, technology, finance, human resources, and production.

Financial Accounting Fundamentals

This course teaches the basics of accounting and helps students build financial decision-making skills for future studies or careers. They will learn about service and merchandising businesses, computerized accounting, financial analysis, and ethics.

Financial Accounting Principles

This course teaches advanced accounting to help students get ready for business studies after high school. They will learn how to read financial statements, manage assets, and understand financing, partnerships, and corporations.

Entrepreneurship: The Venture

This course teaches students how entrepreneurs find ideas, plan businesses, and reach their goals. Students will create a business plan and build the skills and traits needed to succeed through hands-on activities.

Entrepreneurship: The Enterprising Person

This course shows why enterprising employees are important in today’s changing workplace. Students will learn key skills and plan a school or community event to practice being enterprising.

Marketing: Goods, Services, Events

This course teaches the basics of marketing products, services, and events. Students will learn how trends and technology affect buying choices and will create a marketing plan for a product they choose.

International Business Fundamentals

In this course students will learn why international business and trade are important in today’s global economy. They will explore how to market, manage, and sell products worldwide and prepare for business studies after high school.

Entrepreneurship: Venture Planning in an Electronic Age

Students will explore how to start and run an online business by developing important entrepreneurial skills. They will identify a business opportunity and learn how to create a complete venture plan. This hands-on approach helps prepare them for real-world business challenges.

Information and Communication Technology: The Digital Environment

This course helps students improve their digital skills by using common business software and learning about e-business. These skills prepare students for success in the workplace or further education.

Information and Communication Technology: Multimedia Solutions

In this course, students work together on projects using business software and multimedia tools. They will learn more about e-business and e-commerce to build skills for college and future jobs

Business Leadership: Management Fundamentals

This course helps students build leadership skills for managing a business. Topics include decision-making, teamwork, handling stress and conflict, motivating employees, and planning. Students also learn effective communication, ethics, and social responsibility in business.

Business Co-op

Co-op placements focus on learning through work experience. These positions are usually unpaid, though in some cases:

  • Schools may permit students to receive payment.
  • Community partners or school boards may offer an allowance for expenses, transportation, or a small honorarium.

Each student is supported by a cooperative education teacher, who ensures they:

  • work in safe environments within the community
  • have regular opportunities to practice skills, apply learning, and reflect on their progress
  • develop the ability to solve problems effectively and independently

In the 2-Year program, students take part in a longer co-op placement that grows with their skills. Over time, they take on more responsibility, receive mentorship, and gain experience that helps them get ready for future careers and making career choices.
